Types of Sentences
There are four sentence types: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex.
Sentences are made of clauses, which are groups of words with subjects and verbs.
An independent clause expresses a complete thought. All four types of sentences have independent clauses.
Subordinate or dependent clauses do not express complete thoughts. They occur in complex and compound-complex sentences. Subordinate clauses fall into three categories: adjective clauses, adverb clauses, and noun clauses.
